POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Associate Actuary, is responsible for assisting with financial reporting and data analysis for Everence’s employer-sponsored health insurance. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES- Organize and update enrollment, premium, and claims data related to employer sponsored health insurance. Create regular and ad hoc reports as requested.
- Conduct actuarial rating analysis for employer sponsored health plans. Utilize Microsoft Access, Excel and Visual Basic to obtain and analyze data.
- Calculate reserves for assigned Everence health plans. Note patterns, trends, and unusual changes. Conduct testing and provide input into maintaining models.
- Assist clients by evaluating the impact of potential employee health benefit design changes.
- Develop knowledge of actuarial work, insurance principles, industry trends, and regulation through industry and actuarial resources. Learn about Everence practices through contact with persons at Everence.
- Assist as needed in actuarial analysis related to rating and reserving of Everence’s Annuity, Life and Senior Health product lines
- Work aggressively toward gaining professional actuarial status by preparing for actuarial exams.
- A bachelor's degree in mathematics, actuarial science, business, computer science, finance or related field, including a background in calculus, algebra, probability, and statistics.
- Completion of several exams for the professional designation of Associate of the Society of Actuaries is desirable, although not required.
- Analytical and mathematical aptitude.
- Strong attention to detail and ensuring accuracy
- Self-motivation to study actuarial syllabus materials without supervision and to complete work assignments.
- Creative ability to solve mathematical and analytical problems and use computer resources effectively.
- Some programming abilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both actuaries and non-actuaries.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access.
- Sensitivity to Everence’s mission.
